1. BACKGROUND
Transformation has become the driver for organisational sustainability throughout the world. The principal purpose of Transformation is to bring about change and equity. Transformation is therefore an evolution – a process – and not a once-off event. That is why Bantsho Management and Marketing Strategies (Bantsho)believes in walking the journey with you, the client, and delivering unique and quality consulting services and solutions for your continued profitability and sustainability.
Bantsho, formally operationalised in November 2000 but trading fully in April 2001, is essentially a consulting, research and training company that provides transformation consulting services and solutions to the private and public sectors. Bantsho is 100% black owned, managed and controlled.
In other words, our vision is ‘to be the transformation catalyst for business growth, prosperity and sustainability’.
As a management consultancy, we provide the skills and the processes required to assess a corporation’s transformation needs and how they are or can be met. We also manage the implementation of these processes, and together with the client, see the project through to the maintenance stage where working environments are monitored and sustained.
Bantsho also aims to initiate and develop the ‘tapestry’ between business, government and small business, especially black business. In so doing, not only does it nurture business and economic transformation, it also aids the larger corporations and the government sector to effectively meet, maintain and sustain their commitment to the economic equity mandate.
2. AREAS OF EXPERTISE
As Bantsho, apply our energies, but are not limited to, the following areas:
2.1 Consulting Services and Solutions
• Executive Advisory Services on Small Business Development:We provide advice and implementation strategies for business and government executives on constructive engagement with small businesses, communities and youth. We advise individual executives, small and large teams of decision-makers on aligning small business development with their corporate strategies. We also identify business deals that are viable for black business participation and identify industry players that will support Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) ventures.
• Local Government and Local Economic Development:We work with local government to create an enabling environment for SMMEs to create employment opportunities for local people and create an entrepreneurial environment for SMMEs to flourish, thereby creating social and political stability. We have been enhancing relations between mining houses, municipalities and local communities to create economic vibrancy in under-developed communities. To this end, we have worked fruitfully with district and local municipalities to deliver impactful business initiatives.
• Performance Management: Through Performance Management, Bantsho ensures that values alignment is integrated as a core component of performance management. We also ensure that staff are measured on values as part of their performance management assessment. We also build in consequences for non-performance or non-alignment for performance in organisations. Bantsho has the ability to adapt performance management system and practice to incorporate values as (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Policy Analysis and Development:One of our skills is the ability to develop and review policies. Through policy analysis, Bantsho is able to analyse all types of organisational policies, especially Huma Resource policies. Wikipedia defines policiy analysis as “a technique used to enable civil servants, activists, and others to examine and evaluate the available options to implement the goals of laws and elected officials. Policy analysis has been defined as the process of “determining which of various policies will achieve a given set of goals in light of the relations between the policies and the goals.” Therefore policy analysis is crucial in balancing policy formulation and policy achievement (goals). It further explains that policy analysis can be dividedinto two major fields, namely,
o Analysis of existing policy, which is analytical and descriptive. it attempts to explain policies and their development,
o Analysis for new policy, which is prescriptive – it is involved with formulating policies and proposals.
• Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) development:As creators of wealth, employment and innovation, SMMEs need support. We provide support for SMMEs by identifying opportunities, partnerships, incentives and grants from government and private sectors to enable their growth into the mainstream of the economy. Whilst our approach to SMME development is holistic, we have a slanted approach for the development of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) ventures, because BEE entities have historically faced decades of economic exclusion and disempowerment.
• Entrepreneurial and Innovative Thinking:We believe in encouraging communities, small businesses and individual entrepreneurs in identifying their own challenges and solutions through entrepreneurial and innovative thinking and brainstorming. We have therefore assisted a number of small businesses in unlocking their inner potential. This inclusive, rewarding and empowering process has led to solutions being developed by clients, for themselves instead of being developed by us, their business advisors.
• Marketing and Business Linkages:The partnership between established large businesses and SMMEs are critical in ensuring job creation and economic growth. We have techniques and approaches aimed at encouraging mutually beneficial relations between SMMEs and large corporates. We also assist small and large companies that wish to expand into the South African or African market and seek black business partners.
• Research and Development: Research and development enables informed decision-making. Our internal capacity and partnerships with credible research institutions enable us to conduct any type and size of research for our clients.
• Diversity and Inclusion Management Training:We develop customiseddiversityand inclusion training solutions for our clients. We believe in developing problem-specific solutions and refrain from the ‘one-size-fits-all’ mentality to staff training and development in diversity and inclusion.
• Small Business Incubation:To create business sustainability we have to create successful enterprises that have the capacity to contribute positively to local and national economies by fighting unemployment and poverty. Such targeted interventions will ensure that small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs) graduate into the mainstream economy. We have since formalised a business approach with the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) and the Western Public Further Education and Training College (Westcol) to establish the West Rand Business Incubator (WRBI), whose primary objective is to create business incubators that will assist in growing sustainable enterprises in the West Rand.
